I went on a road trip in my 2020 Gurkha.. it turned out to be ~ 100 days. and 20,000 km (~ 800km offroad).   Jan 22 - May 11, 2023

Bangalore - Maharashtra - Gujarat - Rajasthan - Agra - Kajuraho - Panna - Varanasi - Guwahati - Kaziranga - Nagaland - Arunachal - Meghalaya - Sikkim - Kathmandu - Manang - Pokhara - Calcutta and East coast/ghats back to BLR.

The Gurkha was already battle hardened with 20,000 KM on the odo, on trips to/from Bangalore and Tamil Nadu / Kerala, on highways, back roads, off road and no roads.  issues: bearings, wheel seizure, starter motor, gear shifter,...... These were fixed. and then re-fixed. till it needed to be fixed no more. It was ready to realise its raison d'etre: an epic road trip!

The route plan started off as a Bangalore - Kaziranga + Nagaland to and fro. But I had more time. I figured, 60 days give or take. Gujarat and Rajasthan were added, to round out the route. The plan was to sign up a series of peeps to ride shotgun for parts of the trip, and figure out the rest en-route. Here's is how it unfolded.

Leg 1: blr to rajkot with mbhai. massive boabab trees, offroad driving intro, camping, ship breaking, gir .  setting up the routine. 10 days

Leg 2: solo in rann of kutch. indian wild ass and salt flats. where dreams recrystallized. 6 days. 

Leg 3: luxing from rajasthan to kajuraho with z1. leopards, desert, forts, palaces, taj mahal, tigers, temples. 20 days. 

Leg 4: varanasi to dimapur (with last minute signup Nick). ganges, darbanga, guwahati, kaziranga, 7 days. 

Leg 5: nagaland offroad with nizar. kapamudhzu, shilloi lake, longwa, naga headhunters, burma border. 10 days.

50 days in. No more peeps signed up. Solo the next 40 days.

Leg 6:  arunachal. menchuka, ziro and tawang. like going to a foreign country on another planet. 12 days. 

Leg 7: meghalaya. root bridges, water falls, highlands, canyons. 4 days. 

Leg 8: sikkim. gantok, yuksum hiking. 6 days.

80 days in, and not a single international border crossed! tch. tch. And Nepal was sitting right there.

Leg 9:  nepal. katmandu, offroading to manang and recoup in pokhara. 12 days.

Leg 10: long drive back via Calcutta (suraj joins), konarak, araku valley. 8 days.
